INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
We assist students individually who are having struggles socially, emotionally, academically or behaviorally. Referrals come through teachers and staff members, students themselves or parents. Once a referral is received we make every effort to see the student as soon as possible to discuss the problem and possible solutions.
CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS
Mrs. Eaton and Mrs. Averette present classroom guidance lessons through the specials rotation. These lessons offer a wide range of topics presented through stories, discussion and activities. The lessons allow for student reflection, discussion and even goal setting. Grade levels receive the lessons as the schedule allows.
SMALL GROUP COUNSELING
We offer a variety of small groups for students who are struggling inside and/or outside of the classroom. The topics are as follows: Friendship, Anxiety, Grief & Loss, Study Skills, Boy/Girl Talk, and Separation/Divorce. If your child is experiencing difficulty in any of the above areas, please contact Mrs. Eaton. She will provide you with a parent permission form and inform you when the next opening will be available for your desired small group.
BACKPACK BUDDIES PROGRAM
Our school partners with the N.E.W. Backpack Buddies Program and Radiant Church to provide small weekend bags of food for students in need. If you feel your family is in need of this community supported program, please contact Mrs. Eaton to discuss further.
ATTENDANCE CHECK-IN PROGRAM
Attendance is extremely important for school success. Mrs. Bagley, our School Social Worker, and Mrs. Averette, our Part-time School Counselor, work together to assist and support student and families struggling with attendance issues. We offer an attendance check-in program for older and younger students to help establish an ongoing connection for students and families. Our data indicates that checking in with these students most often helps strengthen their attendance, self-esteem and ultimately their academic success. We strive to work closely with students and families to enhance their educational experience.
EAGLE BUDDY MENTOR PROGRAM
We realize that it is sometimes beneficial for students to have an adult mentor to help guide them behaviorally, academically, and/or socially and emotionally. We have established a mentor program at Harris Creek to assist at-risk students in getting extra support and encouragement. We currently have a waiting list, however if you feel your child could benefit from an adult mentor, please contact Mrs. Averette and she will be happy to add your child's name to the waiting list.
STUDENT ASSEMBLIES
The school counselors will periodically coordinate student assemblies related to character education, antibullying or test preparation. Students are able to participate in these assemblies when tracked in during the school day.
